We set out from Copenhagen to pick up our rental car at the airport. We got this super cute, cherry red, teeny-tiny, Fiat! It was so cute and so fun to zip around in!
It was our first time driving in Europe, but J did a great job. Denmark was not a difficult place to drive.
All along the way, we passed these beautiful fields of yellow flowers. These flowers are used to make mustard.
Coming off the island where Copenhagen is, we traveled over the world's second-longest suspension bridge. It is 12.5 miles long. As you can see from this picture, it was really foggy. We couldn't see the water at all - it was pretty creepy!

This picture is out of order, but it was clear on our way back into Copenhagen, so we could actually see the water and the suspension bridge. It was really beautiful! the water was so blue and clear!
After checking in at the hotel and meeting up with our friends, we set out for the ceremony. It was held in this beautiful church next to a lake. It was a beautiful setting. The ceremony involved a lot of singing. The pastor gave a short sermon and the couple exchanged two "yah's" and they were married!

My dear friend Nina. Nina lived in Florence for a few months, but moved back to Copenhagen for school. It was so fun to see her!
J and his brother, Martin.
Martin Jorgenson played for Fiorentina for many years. All Italians think that J is Martin. They really don't look anything alike, but I guess the Italians see someone with short blond hair wearing Fiorentina gear and assume it is Martin. J started telling people that he isn't Martin, but he was his "fratello," his brother.

After the ceremony, we headed to the Danish castle for the reception. We arrived and had a short champagne toast and then went in a sat down for supper. Danish weddings are very different from American (or Italian) weddings! Shortly after sitting down, the "toast master" stood up and brought the evening to order. His job was to coordinate all the speeches. Many people gave speeches and the speeches were quite long (15-20 minutes, minimum). The girl sitting next to us acted as our interpreter and translated all the highlights of the speeches. Even just understanding a little of what was said, the speeches were quite moving. While the speeches were going on, we ate amazing food!
The Danish have really fun and cute traditions. They have the "normal" clinking your glasses to have the couple kiss, but they take it a step further. When you clink your plate, the couple has to stand on their chairs and kiss and when you stomp your feet, the couple has to go under the table and kiss. Per is around 6'8" so standing up on the chairs and kissing little, petite Majka was a challenge!
This was one of my favorite traditions - whenever the bride gets up from the head table (to go to the bathroom or anything), all the ladies in the room line up and kiss the groom and vice-versa, when the groom gets up, them men rush up and kiss the bride. Pretty fun!
It was a beautiful day and a beautiful place for the reception!

This is another fun tradition:
The new married couple has to dance at midnight (otherwise it is really bad luck). The dinner/speeches went up until right before midnight, so we had to hurry to make sure they dance. Everyone stands in a big circle around the couple, as they dance we clap and move in closer and closer. By the end we are in a tight circle around the couple.

Then:
The the guys pick up the groom and cut off his socks!!

This is to make it "easier" and more "convenient" for the groom for later that night... hee hee!

And then the dancing fun began!!
The beautiful bride, Majka.
Per dancing with grandma. He really does make everyone look short!

The Pietilas and the Jorgensons
Beautiful, beautiful table centerpieces.

Such amazing and fun people!
Around one or two in the morning, the hotdog cart arrived!!! yum! It was a good snack!
Heehee, this picture cracks me up!
Such a fun evening!
We were all dancing fools!!

This picture absolutely cracks me up!! Jimmy (on the left) must be a descendent of a Danish viking and John (on the right) is a true Scotsman!
My wonderful girls!
This wedding was such a special time! We ended up catching the last bus back to the hotel, which departed at five in the morning!! We couldn't believe how late we were up, I don't think I have ever danced so much in my life. We all had sore feet the next day!
We had a safe and uneventful end to our trip. We drove back to Copenhagen, stayed the night next to the airport, and had a nice easy flight back to Florence.
What an amazing experience we had!!
